No see that's the problem. We ain't mechanics and it's impossible to find someone that actually wants to work on a Rover. The usual response to asking is "Hell No! Don't bring that damn thing here!"
There is actually a kit to use a VW TDI drive train to convert a Rover to diesel. I think that's a genius idea. And there's an 05 TDI Jetta wagon with damage to the front clip from being in the garage when it caught fire last year. The engine seems to be still good. Although there's a sensor inside the transmission keeping it from shifting correctly. That's one problem. But we have a VW nerd mechanic friend fairly close by. But the kit a line is something like $8K.
Short answer here would be...I predict a Chevy engine in the near future.
I love the Scouts! Had the chance to buy one shortly after high school and didn't have the $. That was a long time ago now and I still wish I would have worked harder to get it. That Willy's is awesome too!!
