I'm not dumping on this article, nor am I attacking the poster, but in reading the article, I found a few uses of "odd" terminology. It reads like someone with some understanding of A&P (anatomy and physiology) is trying to tie together a few facts to make an argument.

Now, I have to admit that the more we know about medicine, the more we realize how much we DON'T know.

Somewhat supporting of this article, and just as a background about how there is a wide world of variability:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK54103/

"There are at least six genes that control globin synthesis in humans, resulting in the formation of six structurally different polypeptide chains that are designated α, β, γ, δ, ξ, and ς chains. All normal and most abnormal hemoglobin molecules are tetramers consisting of two different pairs of polypeptide chains, each chain forming a monomeric subunit.

The blood of a normal adult human contains at least six different species of hemoglobin molecules, all of which have the same principal structure and function. Hemoglobin A (A for adult) makes up 92% of the total hemoglobin concentration in a normal adult human. To date, approximately 200 structurally different human hemoglobin variants have been reported. These abnormal hemoglobins (relative to hemoglobin A) often have different oxygen-binding properties."

In short, there're a lot of variables between people, beyond the obvious "co-morbidities".

I read the article with hopes. When it started in on politics, my hopes were dashed.

Poor management leads to poor results. Yes they are busier than normal and like with any business how you adapt to the increase in demand directly impacts the results you get. I don't expect any hospital to admit that if they had taken different steps at the beginning they would be in a better position but if the population in a particular area has a large amount of at risk individuals they should have been preparing weeks ago to be ready for the increase. Fortunately from the article you posted it sounds like no patient is without a bed or being denied care. They made no mention if they were using up there ventilators so i'm assuming they are also well supplied there as well.

Here is a little reading in lieu of “Assumptions”...

Time will tell whether it’s all been worth it or if it’s just another global warming hoax

I doubt that.
One version of history will say "The only reason it wasn't that bad is because we had nationwide social distancing and lockdowns which were unprecedented."
The other version will say "It was never going to be that bad but we loaded up and debt and government power by claiming a crisis."

“We are grateful a growing number of people are recovering from COVID-19 in our community, and today we were thrilled to celebrate the release of our first patient who had been intubated and treated in our intensive care unit. She is doing well and will continue to recover at home with her family. Unfortunately, today, we also reported two additional deaths of COVID patients today. Our ICU continues to be filled with patients who are seriously ill because of the virus. We have been working closely with other hospitals around the state to transfer patients in need of intensive care when our unit is unable to accept additional patients. Over the last two days, we transferred three COVID-19 patients, and we appreciate the other hospitals that are helping us make sure all patients are getting the level of care they need,” said Brandi Lunneborg, Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Chief Executive Officer.

Phoebe Reports Tuesday COVID-19 Numbers
Albany, Ga.
– As of noon Tuesday, these were all Phoebe-related COVID-19 test results:

  • Total Positive Results – 1,505
  • Total Positive Deaths from Phoebe Main – 45
  • Total Positive Deaths from Phoebe Sumter – 7
  • Total Positive Patients in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital – 131
  • Total Positive Patients in Phoebe Sumter Medical Center - 26
  • Total Positive Patients in Phoebe Worth Medical Center – 0
  • Total Patients Awaiting Test Results – 487
  • Total Negative Results – 2,247
  • Total Patients Recovered – 540

Honest question are these numbers truly overwhelming? If so I am scared. 3752 people total over a few weeks causing a hospital to be overwhelmed highlights how unprepared this country is for any sort of biological attack where everybody would truly be in panic and make a run on every hospital. Imagine a country like China or North Korea deciding to weaponize a virus like this. We have telegraphed our response and it would be foolish to think our enemies aren't watching. Maybe some good will come from this and we can figure out how to better prepare our medical system's response time in a catastrophic event.

Guys, this **** is a joke.

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) model cited by the White House Coronavirus Task Force lowered its projections for coronavirus deaths in the U.S. by 25 percent from 81,766 to 60,415 early Wednesday morning.

The IHME model has come under withering criticism for vastly overstating projections of regular and ICU hospital beds needed, but its death projections to date have closely tracked with actual data.

Wednesday’s dramatic reverse in the model’s projection of U.S. deaths was made without a press release from IHME explaining the reasons for the reduction. It marks the second reduction in the model’s U.S. deaths projections since April 1, when it forecast 93,765 U.S. fatalities.

On April 5, the death projections were lowered to 81,766.

Ummmm.... wasn't this the whole point of the lockdowns? If social distancing and lockdowns would not change the cases downward why do them?

It is a weaponized biological attack. From China. Planned or by accident is the only question.

And yes, our healthcare system isn't designed, or prepared for this.
