Very accurate summary, but the deals are there of you stay diligent. Good luck....I will be doing the same thing in December. Can't be worse than almost getting killed over a $2500 Jeep Grand Cherokee during my last search.....found this Jeep on the ODT and was very lucky the seller was arrested before I showed up with the cash.

I think I hear a good story here.........

I'll give you a hand in starting the thread with the story alphacpa.

---"No ****, there I was...."---

aaaannnndd go

You need to put more stipulations in your search. Like a price floor, has images, engine size or trim, specific year, etc. That helps a lot.

Go to Carmax. They are the only ones I've found that sell used cars, that aren't crap, at a fair price. They stand behind them. You know you won't be buying garbage. If you have ANY problem(s) they are going to fix it. That being said, they aren't a $2-3k car lot. Then again, it's hard to find a decent used car for that that's not junk, unless you know someone already. Good luck!

Half the people on CL are flippers

Be sure to ask if the title is in THEIR name
The flippers aren't going to pay the 6% title tax
If someone with a foreign accent answers the phone. Just hang up. They're a flipper
if an American answers ask about the vehicle

Ask " how long have you owned it "?
Ask "why are you selling it "?

Ask " do you have any maintainence records or receipts "?

Ask "what repairs does it need"?

Ask " do you have a clear Georgia title in YOUR name"?
There's deals on there. You just have to wade thru alot of crap to find em

I like the 91-96 thunderbirds and cougars
No resale value and easy to work on

Also Buicks are a lot of car for the money since they have no resale value because only old geezers want them

Use one of those filters that will text or email you when an ad is posted meeting your keywords and price

And looking at surrounding towns will help

What's your budget?
And can she drive a stick?

I know a broker that deals in lease returns

Most are about 5-7 years old

And if yore near Danielsville. There's a dealer at the traffic light that has a fair selection of under $3000 vehicle

I agree with a lot of your rant except the very beginning. Why don't you want someone to make a profit by selling you a car? What's wrong with making a profit?

I agree with 41Mag as far as going to Carmax. Their cars are going to be about $2500 higher than traditional car lots. BUT... in exchange for that you get to eliminate ALL the traditional car lot BS. And there is a no lemon return policy.

Craigslist is what it is. Once you've used it for a while you know what to avoid. My biggest complaint about it is when people have something listed for sale and they don't put a phone number with it. it's like they aint serious about selling it.
