Well that's what my mom called them when I was growing up.

Brown some ground beef and drain it, set aside. I used 3lbs.

Peel, quarter, and boil some potatoes. Drain and set aside.

Finely dice some onions and carrots, I've never used green peppers or celery but I bet they would be good too! Sauté in some oil until cooked to desired tenderness.

Coarsely mash the potatoes in a large bowl and add the vegetables and the ground beef. Mix it all through, it will start binding together because of the potatoes. Add a little evaporated milk to help out with the binding. Go SLOW with the milk, it won't take much at all. Salt and pepper to taste.

Patty the mixture, then eggwash, flour, eggwash again, then panko.

Heat some oil, deep enough to come at least halfway up the sides of the patties. I'll pat them to reshape them a little bit before deep frying until golden brown. It won't take long to brown them, everything inside is already cooked. These things are flippin awesome.
