Daily Driver Porn!

GA-60, from Dahlonega to Blue Ridge (From two days ago). One of my favorite roads of all times. Typically I just ride my bike (S1000RR) on it, but the car was equally as fun, and quite frankly, faster by a long shot.

The only real criticism I've heard about these cars is that the cost of a brake job gives te average owner a heart attack. Has the cost moderated at all?

Define brake job.

If we're talking pads, then maybe $200 DIY. If we're pads & rotors, then about 3K factory OEM online from 6k factory oem msrp. You could go with non factory rotors with factory pads for 1k combined if you wanted. Media hypes up the cost. Heck, if I went to the dealer and told them to replace all brake components including the Brembo calipers, it would run me 20K. Then again, the M3 I had was twice the service cost, even though the car cost half as much. Long story short, any car make will give you stealership oem prices if you don't know how to do basic wrenchin/maintenance.

Yep, the 6k figure for pads and rotors is the one that I heard. I have a friend in the used car business who looked at a used one for a decent price, but passed on the deal because the car needed pads and rotors. Good to hear that there's half priced alternative, but 3k is still eye opening. I've heard that there's an option to go with more standard cast iron rotors - workable for some, blasphemy for others.

The only real absurdly priced brake jobs are vehicles with carbon ceramic rotors. I don't even think the Nismo GT-R's have those though.

IIRC, a few guys on you tube posted invoices for pads and rotors on Ferrari 360's and 458's with iron rotors, and even they were under $3k I think.

I agree though, dealers will make it way more expensive than it needs to be. My old 2014 STI was quoted at $2,800 for dealer replaced pads and rotors. Doing it yourself using better 2-piece DBA 5000 rotors/hats and quality street/track pads was only like $1,500 for parts and would have been a big upgrade over stock.

Swapping rotors and pads on most cars is stupid simple as well.

I thought the GTRs had carbon ceramic. I assumed this was the reason for the cost.

Dealer cost - the exact reason I own one of my cars. The valve and timing chain covers were leaking oil. The previous owner was quoted $1800 for repairs at the dealer. I bought the car for $600 and will be replacing gaskets myself.
