Can't go wrong with either, but like has already been said above, it's un-American to not own a 1911.

Get the best of both worlds. SIG makes a great 1911.

Have a look at the SIG TACOPS TB version in either full size or carry. I had the carry model and still to this day regret getting rid of it.

Browning is the OG but Colt would be a good choice as well.

The only 226 I would consider over the 1911 would be a legion but that's a pretty penny

If I had to choose between a 1911 or a sig 226. I would get a cz75.

The Springfield A1 Loaded is a great gun as well. Right now I have a S&W E Series that is a great gun and a Remington R1 Hunter ( six inch barrel as opposed to the 5 inch full size barrel ) in 10mm. The long slide guns are really hard to find so when I saw the Remington I scooped it up and it's a fine gun as well. I have had Taurus, Kimber, Springfield, S&W and Remington. I don't think I have had a bad gun yet. All of them were great guns. The
Taurus could have had a little better trigger but it worked flawlessly. All except the Remington were and are 45 acp.. The 10mm is a cannon.
