Once the BG went for the gun it was Life or Death and the time to shoot was then, if BG disengaged though and did not reengage, this may be a bad shoot.

No doubt you're correct, but that's going to require some very articulate articulation to justify that one.
Loon had a rock damaging vehicle, man needed a gun to defend himself from rock wielding loon, loon attempted to forcibly get the gun, man shot loon before he was able to continue to try and get the gun. I hate his mental illness got him killed but the man was justified.

Looks good to me based on the video. Once the kid attacked him and was trying to get the gun he had no choice. The only thing I can say is maybe he shouldn't have intervened and just let LE handle it.
stay inside....call 911. might be justified, but he put himself in more danger by going outside.
