Diesel Volkswagen??

Don't get the automatic Trans
They have a reputation for failing

Get the 5 speed and ask the Seller about what kind of oil they were using
Tdi s take a special oil and any other oil will damage the engine

We've had several
Mrs roundhouse has a 2000 beetle 5speed with 230k on it
It gets about 40

I had a 01 golf 4 door 5 speed
It got 44 every tank
It had almost 300k on it when I bought it

You will have to find a Tdi guru to work on it
Do not trust it to a regular mechanic

That's the big issue
You gotta fix it yourself of have someone who works on a lot of Tdi s to fix it

And VWs have a lot of quirky and bizzare electrical problems

I wouldn't get one for the mpg
A lot of cars get in the mid 30s

If you like a particular VW and like the diesel. Then it might be ok

There is some truth here but not all of it. OP didn't state how new or old. The older auto transmissions were horrible but the dsg transmission aren't bad once tuned and hold up to a lot of abuse.

Exactly this. I knew I would never see the kind of money VW offered for my car which is why I let them have it back. Loved that car though.

My big problem is the "fix" that VW is going to do.
I'm 100% the fix will kill the mpg.
Not sure if VW it self know what they will do to the cars.

Having lower mpg's. You might as well get GTI.
Because you'll be paying higher cost fuel, repair, maintenance.

I been getting about 55 mpg on my manual. That was all interstate.
Now 45, back roads.

There is very little info out there about what the fix may be. If I opted to keep it and get the fix, I would simply undo it and delete the car like it was before the fix. I was never that impressed with the MK6 wagon that I had. I got better mileage with my MK4 and honestly had more fun. The MK6 was more luxurious and had more room but didn't have the same heart and soul the MK4 had.

I dont want to take a chance. I have a feeling those VW bastard will do something to make it permanent. They done a good job at fooling everyone.

If OP wants TDI. You should wait for VW start selling the tdi again. They cannot be scraping all those cars. it should be cheaper then also.

But i do not know if there's a future in diesel. Mazda was going to bring a diesel to usa. After VW news. Mazda cancel it.
I'm not sure if we'll see mk7 tdi.

Got 2.0 TDI, manual right now.

Selling it back to VW. Money are too good. but i know I'll miss it.
Done all the maintenance my self, got VCDS.
Maintenance might be high. But Compare to other German cars, it's not bad. You get what you pay for.

You wont be able to buy 2.0 tdi right now. You wont be able to beat what VW is offering me.
I cant think of another economical car that you can compare my diesel jetta with. Thats my problem. I bought it for the long run. If i wanted a **** car to shave off the extra coin, I would have went to kia
