“The plea document states Ridenour from 2017 to December 2020 made and sold silencer kits and components without the required Federal Firearms License.”

“Diversified Machine was a full-blown silencer manufacturing operation in Ridenour’s pole barn, involving thousands of silencer components including cylinders, baffles, spacers, monocores, endcaps and muzzle breaks,” the plea agreement states.

Ridenour advertised his silencer kits on a business website he operated. Ridenour and Logan referred to their kits as “solvent traps” to hopefully avoid law enforcement’s detection, the document states.

It's an easy conviction if a potential customer buys one of these kits and mentions that he's going to use it for a silencer build. At that point the seller of these so-called 'solvent traps' is on notice that they make excellent silencers for real firearms,
and some WILL be so used.

But... what if The Business refused to sell a solvent kit to anybody who mentioned any use of these other than for gun cleaning purposes, even somebody who said they were going to legally build a silencer out of one by first registering it and paying the tax? I think they too should be denied a sale under ATF's reasoning, because the seller of the silencer kit is still selling what he knows will be turned into a silencer-- and very easily!

In other words I'm curious to see how well this machine shop kept up the charade and whether they stayed in character throughout the entire play?
In the World of silencer kit selling-- just like in theater -- you don't want to break the fourth wall and let the audience know that you know, and they know, it's all just make-believe!

the ridiculesness of it is.....you cant possess the parts to build a suppressor, thats the problem with the "solvent traps". but now the atf has canceled all the tax stamp requests to make leagal form 1 suppressors because people are/were following the law and legally making suppressors. now the atf wants to see the parts you plan to use to make a form 1 suppressor, they cant be solvent traps and you cant own them without the stamp...so you need to show the parts you cant own until you get the stamp, inorder to get the stamp...
