Giving your badge number is a "taught" standard, but not a law in GA. (not an opinion)

Many agencies do not carry badges with numbers. On every Uniform Patrol Citation and report has officer name and his employee numbers. If you want to file a formal complaint make sure you get the officer name. More bad cops than good cops in GA.

Every badge I've ever looked at had a number stamped on it ??? I didn't realize some had no numbers at all, guess that's good to know because if it had no number I'd think he was a bogus cop with a toy badge. I for sure will be checking on this to see if it's true.

even without badge number, they do have name on uniform, and along with other identifying info, say patrol car number or plate, that should be enough to identify. I

depending on the context, asking an officer for badge number can be more trouble than it's worth.
