Do we over romanticize old muscle cars?

I tend to think we do.. At 51 I have owned several

66 GTO

67 Tempest w/675hp 400eng

70 Camaro z28

71 mustang boss

All were awesome cars in their own right and all were very fast and fun to drive...in a straight line..

But what we forget is the did not stop and did not handle.

With the new modern muscle cars you get the both of both worlds speed handling and stopping power and even decent mpg.. The problem with the newer muscle cars is number 1 price and number 2 I don't think these mass produced muscles cars will even be as collectible as the their older counterparts number 3 soulless for the most part..

While I would love to have my old goat back as far as a daily driver I would rather have a G8 or Caddie CTSV..

What muscle cars have you owned or own?
Much of the handling issues can be vastly improved with modern suspension upgrades. The hiney ugly styling of modern cars (relatively speaking) isn't so easy to 'upgrade'.
My dream is a '65 GTO. I could care less if it was numbers matching or had a drop in crate. The style is what's long gone... unfortunately.

Oh those days:

1966 Chevelle 327

1971 Roadrunner 383 (with beep beep horn)

19?? Metropolitan with V8 on custom raised Chevy Frame 2 1/2 foot clearance - mud bogger (maybe not street legal back then ??)

Mine was a 1969 blue with black vinyl topped Chevelle SS396. Added crane cam, headers, holley double pumper carb, etc. It was a bad machine for a ridge running Tennessee hillbilly teen in early 1970! So wish I still had it!

66 Mustang was a pleasure to drive. Could do a U turn on a wide 2 lane road. I'm pretty sure you meant the '70 boss.

I sure love the feel of driving older cars. I have an 89 Volvo wagon that reminds me of how it felt driving a John Deere 4020 as a kid..don't know why it just has a similar feel.

Newer cars seem to be more about feeling the car, then kind of experiencing the sensation of driving. Older cars seem to be more in tune with feeling the road and sensations through the car. A lot of the newer cars simply try to insulate you from the driving experience.

It's not that old, and may not be considered a "muscle car", but I sure appreciate the true sports car feeling it conveys to the driver.
