plenty of people won't carry a semi-auto with a round chambered.
They aren't the kind of people who go to gun shows, take training classes, or register at gun chat sites like this one. But there are huge numbers of them out there. They just don't trust manual safeties, and don't think it's safe or responsible to carry a loaded and "cocked" gun on a daily basis regardless if it has a safety lever, or if you use it.
If I can't convince such people the errors in their thinking, I try to steer them toward a double-action revolver or a DA-Only semi-auto. That long relatively heavy trigger pull can be enough to convince them that it won't just "go off" by accident. Everybody knows that revolvers are supposed to be carried loaded, but a lot of newbies who learn about gun handling from watching TV thinks that it's normal to draw a gun, point it at somebody, make verbal threats, and THEN, when you have to shoot, rack the slide.
