Do you flash lights to warn traffic of speed traps??

Can we change the discussion for a bit or do I need to start another thread?

How do you flash your lights?

I usually pull on the direction indicator like blip-blip, blip-blip. So two short flashes in a row.

How does everyone else do it?
I just hit the button and turn on my red and blue strobe lights... pretty effective!

I'm not going to get into the whole revenue generation aspect, suffice to say I've lived near Pine Lake and Holly Springs. 'nuff said.

Yes it will be a gradual shift but will you guys shift to going after criminals or find another revenue stream. I've been in the construction business for 30 years and had 100,000s thousands of dollars of stuff stolen from me and the cops don't even get out of their car to investigate. Why? Because there is nothing in it for the local government. They are loosing money investigating crimes. When they could be out running radar and raking in cash.

In the next 10 to 20 years as car tech continues to advance crashes will go down. Driverless cars are going to really hurt LE revenue And what's going to happen to all these traffic cops that are no longer needed?
They'll have to find another job that requires 0 marketable skills, plenty of those in government so they'll be fine.

Don't do the "flashy thingy ". I drive speed limit, expect the same of others but of course that is not reality. Blue lights seem to bring drivers back to reality and away from their electronic pacifiers and deafening jungle music.

what exactly is a speed trap?
aren't they doing a job that they get paid to do ?
what would you have them do?

There were a couple towns in Florida a good while back that were (maybe still are) pretty bad along 301. Think it was Waldo and Stark. They had zones where the speed limit went rapidly from 65 to 25. One city drew 40% of revenue from speeding tickets and the other was around 33%. AAA wrote a notice telling drivers to avoid the areas. Those were true speed traps. I wouldn't automatically call the police sitting along a road with a radar gun a speed trap.

9 out of 10 times - Me: Is there any reason for your speed? Violator: "I just wasn't paying attention"

I've been pulled over 3 times in my life, all for speeding, and only got warnings. The most recent time was on a wide open, empty highway and that's exactly what I told the trooper. It was the truth too.
