1991 for me, Motorola bag phone. I could literally make money with it, contractors would pay me too avoid going to a pay phone. Then the novelty, people offering to pay just to use it.

Yep, that looks somewhat like the first one I had, except mine was a motorola . It came free when I bought a car, don't remember when and don't remember what kind of car!!

I remember .35 a minute and roaming charges would break the bank. You had to call the carrier ahead of time and tell them you would be in a certain area if you were traveling. In the mid 80's a $450 "mobile phone" bill was common. My first one was built into the console. I think it was Cingular at the time and they took all day to install the phone.

I just saw this...I have to admit I had #1 in a prototype/testing phase waaaaay back.

My friend had #1 at the same time. Range on the bag phone was so much better than anything else till 3G came out and network was built out to support it.
