Does barrel length affect suppressed sound levels?

The barrel length has a pretty significant affect on sound level in my experience, even in subsonic calibers. The longer the barrel, the nicer it will sound.

There are two many variables. Each caliber at different weights will run and sound different. You really need to decide on the load you want and then the suppressor.

From our testing: heavier subsonic (200 -220gn) .300 requires a shorter barrel. Anything after 10" and the bullet will begin to drag on the barrel. This causes odd shockwaves and actually makes a longer barrel louder then a short barrel when suppressed.

To make the shorter barrel really quiet you need an integral suppressor with a total can length of 10 - 12 inches. Huge difference vs. a screw on 6 or 7" suppressor.

Here is a 8.5" with a integral suppressor on it for a total length of 16.2". Sounds like a pellet gun. very quiet even full auto. We also tested this with different number of baffles and found the best number to use. We have yet to test this with super sonic rounds. But why would you shoot a supersonic suppressed .300 black out?

Suppressed Upper No Hand Guard.jpg

22” 9mm bolt action with 147 subs very quiet
16” .45acp much quiter than pistol
.22 velocitors out of walther p22 stay subsonic in that short barrel
AE 42 grain subsonic is the quietest that still runs a semi auto pistol.
The lower the pressure behind the bullet at the muzzle the quieter it will.
