How do you feel the the commissioner ran cabalas off? There was more to that than the public was aware of and Steve wasn't the commissioner at the time. We are growing rapidly now partiallybecause of the commissioner.
The sheriff does not work for the commissioner and the commissioner has nothing to do with the Sheriff's laws.
The 1.1 m budget is where it's at due to what I call retarded law suits and the county spends lots of money defending itself not to mention the cost of keeping the employees . They alone spent several years being furloughed all the while, they still had to keep their job current. You wouldn't be the first nor the last to try to cut money starting in their office by getting rid of trained, experienced people only to replace them with new untrained folks that will have to be trained and then compensated, which puts you back to square one.
My only question is, do you own land in bartow county or just live in your mom's home? No I'm not trying to be an ass and I'm not coming down on you but I know more about the interworks of this county than most. As for the current commissioner, I didn't vote for him and didn't think he was the right person for the job, he has proven to be a decent commissioner.
I'm on the run this morning so please excuse my brevity. One key point I keep returning to even setting aside the oppressive ordinances which the incumbent is willing to not only promulgate but actively defend, is his annual budget. The commissioner has two jobs : enact ordinances and spend money. With a county attorney paid to figure out the ordinances impact, why does he need $1.1 million dollars a year? Setting aside everything else, even if he were a stellar commissioner, if you can hire another contractor to do the sane work at a cheaper rate you take him. That's just market economics. I believe the incumbent is a big government establishment Republican who should be escorted out of office on principle, but even if he's not; his budget alone screens out there's something wrong here. The county budget for lawsuits should be covered by the hiring of the county attorney and his defense, perhaps a seasoned trial lawyer at the helm will fix those issues.
One last quick point, if in the cabela's deal the government was involved and there were things that the public wasn't aware of, it's the worst form of government abuse possible. I am sick and tired of back room deals, nudge and wink politics, super delegates and brokered conventions. Board meetings need to be in the evening when mist people can attend. They need to be recorded televised and made available online. We need to hold the government... We need to hold me accountable as commissioner. Bartow deserves better.
Now, I absolutely agree that firing good people and replacing them with people who don't have experience and need training is wasteful. As a steward of the people's resources I want to retain the best and the brightest and encourage them to work to the best of their exceptional ability. I do believe there is redundancy in the various offices. I also believe that the county government is over reaching which places a burden on the good men and women who have to enforce these ordinances. I will not waste money.
