Drilled a little into barrel, scrap or okay to use?

PS: Bob Brownell was a gunsmith from the 1940s thru the 1970s,
and founder of the famous company bearing his name that sells gunsmithing tools and other firearms accessories.

He wrote a famous book on gunsmithing in 1969. I have a copy. Here's what he says about drilling blind holes into gun barrels or receivers [for the purpose of attaching sights or scope bases].

Notice he does not address the topic of holes that are unnecessarily deep
yet fail to intrude into the bore or chamber area.

As that German soldier character from LAUGH-IN would say,
