Dry fireing...does it harm centerfire rifles or pistols?

What say the ODT about dryfiring modern center fire weapons?

I damaged a Ruger 9mm dry firing it. Most guns are supposed to be unharmed by dry firing, except 22lr guns, but I will not do any more of it.
That energy has to go somewhere.

when i was in the GA National Guard we dry fired our weapons before storing them.

Did the same in the AF. That was government property, not something I have to fix if I bust it.

The only guns of mine I dry fire is my glocks. Because hell, glocks don’t fail. Period.
