lol know what's worse than a lowball offer? a highball offer you wish you coulda cashed in on. I've done it plenty of times, tell someone a price and right away they say "oh yeah I'll take it right now"...dammit...coulda got another $100

i will always offer whatever i know i could get it for here. if i see a 357 mag revolver in the same condition for $400 here, im not going to give you $600 for the same condition and a drive. nothing wrong with the no thanks, i know i always forget to respond back just because usually by the time i see the offer, i have another worthwhile offer to distract me. i did accidentally lowball a member on here.....sold a surround sound system and some video games, agreed on time and place, and when i got there, realized i forgot one of the games. felt so bad i took 60 or 80 dollars off the asking price........

This. I see nothing wrong at all. And yes, it does work. It would be beneficial to some to NOT have to drive somewhere. You can always counter offer.

If you think everyone should simply pay exactly what you have listed...well, don't plan to move things quick.

My opinion of course. Other side of that....some people are asking ridiculous amounts for stuff...hence the negotiations.

I agree with the statements above--- I think one of the beautiful things about this site (and craigsslist) is that you can trade around for new toys till you find what you want, WITHOUT having to pay Bass Pro's outrageous sticker price. it's kind of like horse trading in Mexico... (and you might as well get used to that mentality as we go forward in our constantly changing US of A)... so just a heads up if I lowball you, and you think I am nutz, just tell me NO! it's nothing personal...

I don't "low-ball" I HAVE seen things I wanted but not as bad as the seller wanted to get for them and offered less than asking price to try to work something out to our MUTUAL satisfaction. I think the art of the "counter offer" is dead. Too bad too. Most people will just say "no" rather than haggle a little. I've haggled and met with several folks here making trades using ammo, holsters, cash, etc to wiggle a deal through.

One thing I would NEVER do, is try to re-negotiate at the meet. Look at the pics, talk about the condition, terms and specific items to go to whom, then uphold your end. Honor your commitment. If the item is other than described/pictured, feel free to cancel, but to suddenly shoot for a discount at the meet is BS. Besides, I think of the folks here that I've met as friends, why on earth would you want to cheat your friends?

Often, not always or even MOST of the time but often the prices people ask here(myself included at times) are higher than I could shop the item at Gun Broker, Cheaper than Dirt, or A&A Arsenal. There are good reasons to pay a bit more to buy from a fellow ODT'er. Just so long as it's not TOO much more.
