E O Tech question

Okay, I got the 512 A65 model. And here is the deal:

The correct placement for best results is to have the glass portion just forward of the ejection port. If I place my 512 there, it sticks out over the heat shields. All the pics I find have the E O Tech mounted on a rifle with a rail system, not heat shields.
So, do I mount my sight with the glass just forward of the ejection port and let the rest of the sight just hang over the heat shield?

Thanks. I'll move it forward again so I can get the flip up rear sight back on
