It has been a long time coming, but has been on my short list for quite a while. I have read reviews and watched videos trying to decide if I should get one, and since an SVT 40 is near impossible to find and likely much more finicky, esp for the price, I finally placed my order last night from AIM. And you never know how long we will have access to Russian imports. I can't wait to shoot such a cheap beastly round out of a semi-auto. I hear the recoil is not bad, but I am kinda hoping it still packs a punch, that seems to be why I like my SKS over my AR. And so next on my list is trying to find a 20 round mag from SGM, or at least a 10. Anyone have experience with the 20 round, I can't seem to find any reviews. And of course I have already considered a rail and stock for it, but I plan to shoot it with the wood stock for while, I actually like the looks of it.

Anyways, just wanted to open a discussion about these rifles. Any thoughts or experience with them? I do plan to shoot corrosive ammo out of it, so first in order is learning how to thoroughly take apart and clean the beast. I will try to post more once it arrives.

Congrats!

I'm waiting for them to come down in price a little more. I hope I don't have to wait too much longer.

I know some PSL enthusiasts have welded two 10-rounders together with mixed results. It's difficult because of the rimmed cartridge.

People use all manner of ways to clean after using corrosive ammo. All you really need is water. The hotter the better. I've used my wife's electric kettle before and pour boiling water down the barrel. It dries faster.

I also us a combination of windex/water/simple green and never had any issues. After you rinse away the corrosive salts that come from the primers you dry and then clean as normal.

Post up a range report after your first shoot!

Now I'm thinking I should've held out for the newest "red sniper" model with IWD wood furniture and threaded barrel for nearly the same price.

I would LOVE to have one of these sexy things!

Yeah, I tried holding out on the price, but $879 with free shipping from AIM is the best I have seen in a while, plus I have the fear of Russian imports being hard to come by at some point in the near future. As for cleaning, I am a little familiar since I have a Mosin, I usually do the windex but am hearing more and more the hot water is the ticket. My concern is all the little places that the corrosive salts might get in a semi auto vs a bolt

Gonna make me cry.
This tops my short list, and the prices are coming down!
AIM Surplus had a bunch for $859 a week or so ago, I believe.

They still have the one I ordered for $879 w/free shipping, it's been on my short list a while but kept getting bumped since it was the most expensive one on my list haha

And I will try to post a report once I get to shoot it

Center fire systems has the 20 rounds mags in stock.

I love my vepr in x54 one of my favorite rifles.

Not in stock. SGM has been saying that these magazines will come to market since the beginning of 2014 and it has not happened yet. Every month they push the release date back a month or two. We have not seen any reviews because their are not any in use. The 10 round SGM magazines have a bad reputation for self destructing and feeding issues. They will replace the magazine if it doesn't work but that's a lot of trouble sending magazines back and waiting for a replacement and their is no guarantee the replacement will be any better.
