First deer rifle…(.308 or .270)

looking for pros and cons like ammo cost, availability, etc. also will a cheap scope do the same job under 50 yards?

308 is a better deer round in Georgia. 270 is ok but if you get a close shot they go through too fast. Seen more than 1 deer lost that way.

Now days ammo availability is probably more important than cost. In that light, pic 308. Plus 180gr bullets make a decent brush gun. As far as scope, get at least a Nikon. Good glass and you won't need to use the adjustments for long range. The adjustments aren't uniform in my experience. But at 50yds, once sighted in you're good. With the scope set up right, you could use the duplex to shoot a couple hundred yards without adjusting the scope

I'd go with a .308, ammo seems more readily available if you buy manufactured.

I love both calibers. 308 is very abundant but .270 is really a flat shooter you cant go wrong eitherway

. 308 will pack a punch also. It depends how far you want to shoot too. In Georgia you probably will shoot no more that 150 to 200 yards
