.308 Win has a wider variety of bullet weights to choose from. You can also get a rifle with a short action and a little shorter barrel if you want, which could make it lighter and handier, maybe a consideration for a woods gun.

I see good availability online for both rounds.

I know a guy that does load development for the rich folks,he has told me they purchase the Ruger Americans for their kids and tells me no need for load development they shoot factory ammo out of box as good as any load he can load.

Ruger or a savage axis, you can find savage axis with accu trigger and vortex scope at same Walmarts as a package deal. I prefer 308 but also have been exploring the idea of getting a 270 for a while now
