We we're out of school that day. I was in 9th grade at Southwest High School. I remember because the day before we had to go to school even though the news said the low temp would be 7 degrees and not much better all day long. But the next day was in the mid 20s and we got to stay home due to frozen busted pipes at school. So I watched the Challenger go up like a bottle rocket live.
