Fishing the Surf

Hooked a tarpon at Indian Pass down from port st joe once. Tarpon won. Have caught quite a lot of fish off Mexico beach. Some real big sharks and sting rays. Good fishing at St George island off the beach, the cut and the bridge. Don’t know what this year will bring.

We beach fish on Cape San Blas every year - my grandsons love it. We use shrimp & squid from the Trading Post if we can't catch enough sand fleas. We catch lady fish, pompano, an occasional shark or ray & lots of big sail cats. I hope the Cape recovers quickly - we love that place. Been going since the early 80's.

Eagles Pass will be new for the picking. I hope the pass does not kill the ecosystem of that bay. I scallop that bay every year and have caught a slew of Trout and reds out of it.

Get a National Park Pass and fish Ft Pickens or Johnston Beach in Pensacola FL. Pompano, Blues, Reds, Trout, Whiting, Rays, Ladyfish, Flounder caught them all from the surf. Easily Accessible sandy white beaches with no condos dotting the landscape, plus you have the benefit of touring Ft Pickens along with Ft Barrancas and the Aviation Museum on NAS Pensacola.

Sand fleas, fresh shrimp, 2-3 ounce pyramid weight on a double drop rig will do the trick.

NC outer banks. Davis island. Take a 4wd across on the ferry. Drive the beach and look for washouts with shells in it.
