Custom S&W 58 by Defensive Creations

Gotta start handloading for the .41.

I don’t need a “full power” load that is generating in excess of 1,000ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle. The Gold Standard for defensive handgun “stopping power” for decades has been the 125grn .357 Magnum doing 1450fps for 584ft/lbs of energy.

A well-designed 210grn bullet at 1225fps would give me 700ft/lbs and be controllable. A 180grn at 1325ft/lbs would give about the same energy results.

I love my Model 58s...but I’d love ‘em even more if there were such thing as a .41 Special. I think some have made a hand-loaded version but I’m talking about commercially available. I think .41 Mag, like .357 Mag and .44 Mag would have enjoyed much greater popularity if there had been a .41 Special to go along with it.

There is a .41 Special, but it's a wildcat, so Brass and Loading Data are hard to find...

Got bored and did some of the work myself. Cleaned all the crud and rust out of the action, polished a little here and there, lubed ‘er up.

Bobbed the hammer and removed the serrations from the trigger.

Looks good so far...You might wanna' "Break the Sharp Edges" on the BACK of the Trigger, too--Those surfaces can PINCH your finger if you shoot a lot in DA Mode...
