florida man, military rocket-propelled grenade launcher and replica grenade in a checked bag.

While the grenade launcher was confiscated, the TSA confirmed that the Florida man did make it onto his flight to Orlando Sanford International Airport.
"But officer, all my friends in Florida have them, so I gotta have one too."

Seriously ?

It was in checked baggage. You can have real guns in checked baggage. Why not replica weapons of a military nature? No passengers can access the checked baggage, locked in the belly of the aircraft anyway.

But, on the other hand, the passenger who travels with an RPG or dummy hand grenades in his suitcase will still be in actual possession of those things going into the airport, and at the airport up to the point that his bag actually gets checked and sent away on the conveyor belt. And at his destination, he'll be given his bag again, while still at the airport.

So I can see why this is not allowed. But to me, it's a pretty close call, when we're taking about checked baggage.
