Is anyone else interested in either fountain pens or fine writing instruments? I have always had an interest in nicer pens and have owned a few Montblancs, Crosses and a Waterman or two.

Since my heart attack, I have been trying to get into hobbies that promote a more philosophical and meditative frame of mind. To that end I have started looking into Calligraphy as well as the patient contemplation required for writing (legibly) with a fountain pen.

I find that my penmanship is horrendous and have been practicing by writing and rewriting Desiderata over and over again. Not only does this help my handwriting and give me the beginning of Calligraphy, but the poem itself is deep and significant and learning it is helping me develop the patience and, hopefully, plant seeds of wisdom. For those who are unfamiliar with Desiderata...

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be.

And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

No if only I had something to write that other people might feel was worth reading. LOL.

Hey. Two months ago. Disappointed the wife by surviving it against the doctors expectations though. ;)

I'm doing OK now. Back at work and started mowing my own grass again. Not sure if I'm happy about that or not. LOL. Yesterday was a tuff day though. Spent two hours on the phone with AT&T and was SURE I was going to have another heart attack. HA!

Had to go reread Desiderata a few more times like some damn monk chanting on a mountain top to get the pulse rate back to something resembling normal. OOOOMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmm....

LOL, well you take care of yourself brother. We/I like having you around here.

I have a Waterman, really flamboyant and hate it. NIB is too damn sensitive. I have a LAMY SAFARI that is really good quality and will not break the bank.

A REALLY COOL place to get some cool pens is https://www.massdrop.com/ It is a huge group buy community that has many SUB communities including EDC, Ultralight hiking, audio, and writing. The catch is you have to wait a couple weeks at least to get what you order. They take all pre-orders then submit to the manufacturers to do special runs, often your items are shipped direct from the manufacturers. I have completed dozens of transactions and the site is LEGIT. The writing community often has many pens, notepads, etc.

Here is the writing community: https://www.massdrop.com/writing

For EDC I am using the following much less expensive pens(I write A LOT for work):

Uni-Ball Jetstream Blue BOLD https://www.amazon.com/uni-ball-Jet...62560&sr=8-3&keywords=uniball+jet+stream+pens

uni-ball Signo 207, I use Brown which I purchase at http://www.artlitepens.com they are local to me. here is the blue version https://www.amazon.com/Uni-Ball-Bal...1469362711&sr=8-5&keywords=uni-ball+signo+207

Pilot HI-TEC-C, Green and Blue. https://www.amazon.com/Pilot-G-Tec-...d=1469362873&sr=8-6&keywords=pilot+gel+hi-tec
