Before anyone blows me up for this, understand its harder for me than you think, so keep your negativity to your self... Here goes..

I am looking to re-home my 12 year old Female Akita. I have all her records, she is excellently behaved, but is getting old. As much as she loves our family, as she ages, she is struggling with my young children's attention, and has made my wife uneasy about her around the little ones.

She is an indoor/outdoor dog who is loving, protective and great with people (she barks at strangers, but really just wants to lick them). Not so great with other dogs as she is a little possessive of her people.

I have raised her from 6 weeks and is a family dog. I have crate, bowls, food and all the Jazz to go along with her... She is a great dog, but needs a new home to grow old in... Feel free to text/call for more info...706-887-7060

Sorry to hear this, hope you find her a great home. I understand how you would both feel with regards to the kids. Count it as a blessing that you're not putting the blinders on. Sucks bud, hope it works out well.

If nobody takes her soon, let me know. We've been contemplating the idea of an old shop dog to live out the rest of their days here as a gun shop dog. Looking for an older mature dog so we don't have to raise it or show it too much attention. Plus, if we don't like it, it's not a long term commitment. If she doesn't find a home let me know and ill run it by the guys again. She be fine alone all night free in a big building or does she require crating?

Free bump for you sir.

Tough position but you have to keep telling yourself you are doing the right thing.

A family friend had their "blinders" on as another poster said and it resulted in facial stitches for their 2 year old.

Best of luck.

Good idea. Shop dogs usually end up getting more attention than home dogs. I wish I could take her but I have an old dog myself and don't think they would mix too well...

Until she starts barking at all the "strangers" or customers! LOL. She is a beautiful dog though, hope you do find a good home for her.

She doesn't require crating... Just a few days to get used to it I'm sure. She has moved all over the world with me (Army) and acclimated great to each new location. She loves attention, just not from little ones, and avoids them mostly. She is still pretty spry for her age, she plays and runs about, but mostly just lays around. She won't bark with out a reason, and stops when commanded. Talk to your guys... Let me know.
