French Style ISIS Attack, in Georgia?

French citizens may own handguns, and not by narrow exception. There are 8 (or so, it's been a while) types of permits. You are limited to 1000 rounds per caliber to be kept at home if you are a civilian.

The French are far, far more likely to own firearms than our long time allies the British (or Americans living in certain places). British former military contractors for private corporations have long sought live-fire training off-shore. (although French law regarding that kind of work is absurd)

"French citizens may own handguns", understood. Can they carry them for self defense within the city limits of Paris?

No. Just like New York City (Detroit, Washington DC. Chicago, San Francisco and on and on). Not even close to the same rules as the Southern states.

Some exceptions but very few.

ETA: an American federal law enforcement officer on "official duty" is far more likely to be given permission (by the MOI) to carry in Paris than a French citizen, but they don't except when the President is visiting and their weapons are stored at the US Embassy.

Like FH said, no they cannot. This type of terrorism is just damned near impossible to stop...anywhere.

Hey Zeake. 802nd Ordinance company in Gainesville, Ga deployed to Afghanistan for nearly a year. One of numerous Reserve units deployed. You served and thanks for your service.
Thanks for yours as well. I was exceptionally lucky. I was in between desert storm and operation Iraqi freedom. I never got deployed.

I hear you, but those brave individuals with their hearts in the right place, would need to fully understand the gravity of the situation they are walking into and be at peace with the real possibility of losing everything they have or ever would have had, because that is what the other side is willing to do. Truth be told, the other side probably doesn't have much of anything to lose so they're not gambling with much. Listen, if the bad guys start walking down the street toward MY house with AKs out, I will do my best to pick them off and defend my family from the rooftops or wherever. If I'm out with my family and I see that stuff going down somewhere else, my only interest is in moving them and me as far away from the danger as possible. I am NOT treating the scenario as some opportunity to teach my children a lesson about bravery and how to be a "real" man. I will lead by example by demonstrating what is most important (safety of my family) and hope they will do the same as they grow up to ensure a long life.

I totally agree with you man. I don't want anything I've said to be taken out of context. If my son is with me and we're in public witnessing some sort of violent attack, or any violence for that matter, my first priority is to get him out of there safely. That's being a real man. Or at least a man with good sense. I'm only saying I would not want my son to know that I would not fight if threatened. That is cowardice. Perhaps my first post was a bit heated (not at you or anyone, though I may have quoted someone to start) but only because this stuff makes my blood boil. Savages murdering innocent people does that to me. When so obviously outgunned it is a wise tactic to avoid at all costs, if possible. If I were equally armed and in a good position to stop them, I would most likely engage them. At least I would like to think I would. Not because I'm brave, but because it is the right thing to do, and there are times when a good man may be faced with a situation and say to hell with the consequences because he knows he is doing the right thing.

If you have seen the HBO documentry "Terror at the Mall" its a pretty good idea of all the crazy shizz nit that gos down in that type of situation.
I had never heard of this documentary before. I just watched it for the first time today.
