Frustrated!! - My S&W M&P AR Won't Cycle Reloads

Are your rounds similar in length and profile to commercial ammo of the same weight bullet?
Does your COAL match the load data for your bullet?
Does your first reloaded round chamber correctly from the magazine?

1. No, they are more round-nosed rather than pointed
2. Not entirely sure but the reloads used to cycle no problem until we cleaned the gas system
3. No, not typically

We're thinking the same thing. First make sure your reloads are in spec.

Can you provide the reloading data you used?

Powder and weight?
Bullet type and weight?
Cartridge trim length?
Cartridge overall length?

Powder: Ramshot and not sure of weight, can't remember - we reloaded these awhile ago
Bullet: FMJ round nose 55 grain
Cartridge Trim Length: don't remember (all have been shot so can't measure)
Overall Length: we shot all of them in the working rifle soooooooooo yeah don't have an overall length

Are the bullets set back in the case at all after you attempt to chamber them?

Yes, it has in the past but not every time.

It seemed as if the bullets wouldn't seat in the chamber so therefore wouldn't fire, making it extremely difficult to extract the bullet (by pulling back on the charging handle) when it was jammed

I just completed the S&W armorer course-How did you clean the gas system?
According to the instructor- with the pressure going through if there's something in there it's going to come out-no need to oil or punch it out. The days of pipe cleaners and Q-tips are done. Is the gas tube intact?

Are these rounds from the same batch as the ones that were working before you cleaned the gas tube? Just doesn't sound like a gas tube issue if they won't even chamber properly and are difficult to extract after trying.

He may have buggered the gas tube, which could bind on the gas key. But that should be evident on an empty gun.

Just to be clear, this gun functions fine with factory ammo? Including after you cleaned the gas system?

What did you do to clean it?

Except factory loads are supposed to be cycling fine. If it was the gas tube being 'buggered,' it wouldn't make a difference on the round. I would think you would have the same results, regardless.

Well since you've shot all the reloads you're gonna have to make some more for us to find out what's wrong with the rifle and/or the ammo LOL

Have you tried factory ammo again since you cleaned the gas system?
