From the looks of it,it's the original finish. According to the serial#, it was born in 1949. Said to be made by Colt machinery and tools and to be just as accurate Colt America. These were made for Argentina through contract of Colt.

Everything Jojo said appears to be correct, I think that rear sight has possibly been changed though! I have one just like it, serial #44xxx, these guns will shoot anything you feed through them! GLWS

This is not an Argentinian contract Colt (one of the first 10,000 made in 1927), but a DGFM-FMAP clone made in Argentina by Argentinian workers. It is a licensed copy (clone), not made on Colt machinery but produced using Colt methods, patterns, and processes.

The front and rear sight have been changed on this gun. It appears the slide would have been milled / machined for the new sights. The trigger shoe is also an aftermarket add on. I would need to see better photos of the back strap of the grip and the internals to get a better sense of how many original parts remain. Seeing that the slide has been modified, it is not strictly "original."

Slide has not been modified, according to a micrometer.....

Reply for educational purposes only:

It has been however, according to my eyes.

That front sight is not a original Colt partridge style sight, which is the ONLY style built into the Argentinian slides, whether contract built here in the US in Hartford CT, or on the DGFM-FMAP slides built in Argentina.

Here are a couple of photos of two Sistema's.

The one in the foreground is a US built contract Colt (#4921 of 10,000). The one in the background is an Argentinian Sistema. Both have staked-in partridge style front sights. Removing these is usually always destructive and new contemporary front sights require either a dovetail slot modification or an enlarged hole in which the new sight must be staked.

I cannot see from the photos provided how the new front sight is attached, but it would be safe to assume that returning the slide to it's original collectible condition would be tentative at best.

Hope this helps.

Anyone know just how collectible these guns are! I was under the assumption that wear made for military issue and were normally carried in the field. The one I have definitely has some finish wear, but is an all original gun! Serial #44xxx, thanks for any help provided!

They have definitely increased in value over the past ten years. That serial number puts its "born on" date somewhere in the early part of 1948. Definitely a keeper.

Here is a break out of serial number by year, and the quantity of guns produced in any one particular year. Production of the DGFM-FMAP guns started in 1945 and continued until 1966..

Hope this helps.
