Item Name: FS Delauney-Belleville 1907-15 Berthier
Location: Winder
Zip Code: 30680
Item is for: Sale Only
Sale Price: $300
Caliber: 8mm Lebel
Willing to Ship: No
Bill of Sale Required?: No
Item Description: Here is a very interesting Berthier. It was made by the private firm of Delauney-Belleville (they produced cars before the First World War) in 1917. It is an all matching example. However, at some point in its life, it was altered to carbine length. No front sight, crude crowning. This example came from Afghanistan, so no telling who did it.
Bore is about what you'd expect..rough, but it is serviceable.
This rifle is not 'N' marked, so it never made it back to France for the huge post WW1 rebuild program that took place. Not recommended for modern 8mm Lebel.
The really interesting bit are the Greek letters stamped on the underside of the butt. France sent Greece many small arms during the Great War, but I've never seen these marks before.
No doubt this Berthier could tell some stories. UPDATE: Now comes with one correct 3 round clip. As stated, this Berthier is not 'N' marked. If the buyer plans on shooting it, do NOT use surplus 8mm Lebel. Prvi Partisan manufactures ammunition that is loaded to the original 'Balle D' specs.
