This 1995 Mitsubishi (73式小型トラック (新) Type 73 Shiki Kogata Torakku is a Pajero-based ½-ton military vehicle that is said to have been used by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and was first registered in that country in February 1996.

The vehicle was imported to the United States in October 2022. Finished in green with a tan soft top over gray upholstery, the truck is powered by a turbodiesel 2.8-liter 4M40 inline-four paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case.

Equipment includes 18″ wheels, a rear spare, a jerrycan, infrared lights, an AM/FM radio, a heater, fully-functional air conditioning, and seating for six. Service performed is included changing the oil as well as replacing the fuel and air filters, glow plugs, and tires.

This Type 73 is now offered with an export certificate, importation documents, and Georgia clean title.

The Type 73 was redesigned for the JDF and remains in production. This example features a tan-colored soft top. Features include a fold-down windshield, sliding side windows, lighting guards, and infrared lights. Mounted spare tire at the rear.

Black-painted 18″ steel wheels are mounted with 265/70 General Grabber A/T tires. Each corner is equipped with disc brakes, and the front axle utilizes locking hubs.

The interior features gray upholstery and bare floors. Amenities include an AM/FM radio, a heater, and air conditioning.

A three-spoke steering wheel frames instrumentation that includes a 180-km/h speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, auxiliary gauges, and 4WD/differential-lock indicators.

The six-digit mechanical odometer shows just under 50k kilometers (~31k miles), approximately 350 kilometers of which have been added by the selling dealer.

The rear of the truck is equipped with jump seats. Seating capacity including the driver is seven occupants.

The turbodiesel 2.8-liter 4M40 inline-four is intercooled and was factory rated at 125 metric horsepower and 217 lb-ft of torque.

Service since the vehicle arrived in the US has included changing the oil and replacing the glow plugs, fuel filter, and air filter.

Power is delivered to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The vehicle is completely rust free.

The Mitsubishi Type 73 Light Truck (Shin) (73式小型トラック (新), 73-shiki kogata torakku (shin)) began production in 1996 as Mitsubishi Motors began to slowly phase out the Type 73 Light Truck Kyūs from production and from selective service in the JSDF, using the frame of the Mitsubishi Pajero as a basis.[6]

The Type 73 Light Truck Shin can be mounted with various heavy machine guns and anti-tank missile launchers. But like its predecessor, the Shin Light Truck can mount Sumitomo M2 machine guns and, for the first time, the Sumitomo MINIMI Light Machine Gun.

When Shin Light Trucks were deployed to Iraq as part of the JIRSG, the vehicles were bulletproofed[11] due to concerns that Iraqi guerrillas would target their vehicles to provoke JSDF troops who, under the restrictions of Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution, are not supposed to participate in any kind of offensive combat operations.

You have some unique vehicles. Japanese military vehicles were always spotless when we did joint exercises. Course, they were under strict instructions to not even getting close to be shot! They had Australian military units pulling security as the Japanese military did humanitarian stuff.

Maybe it's my patriotic American bias speaking but this doesn't surprise me. Japanese people don't feel as much of a duty to the world as much as our fellow Americans do. We are the ones who put our asses on the line for everyone else. But that's also what makes us the best country in the world. :victorious:
