Has a gun smith ever looked at it?

not to my knowledge, as stated in the listing I bought this yesterday and I don't have the balls to shoot anything that could potentially battery discharge. I'm pretty sure it hasn't done so before as previous owner stated he had no problems with it and from what i have read such an event will cause obvious damage to the rifle. I read a post yesterday on a forum where a user had one that would release the firing pin while he was pulling back the operating rod, this one does not seam to do that but I'm no gunsmith.

Tear it down, and see whats inside. Can't tell if there is GI parts w/out eyeballing them. Will tell you also how many springs.

popped open the hood and there are 2 recoil springs as expected.
read up some more on the potential out of battery discharge issue and this site said these issue can be avoided with attention to maintenance.

this pretty puppy is still available although I'm getting tempted to keep it and go have some fun with it.
