Item Description: I have a nice little 38 special in stainless it is a smith and Wesson 36 with no dash. it is in very nice shape for the age and works great

Are you sure it is stainless and not nickel plated?

how do you tell might be nickel plated there is no pitting or places showing through so I assumed it was stainless

Mostly by looking at the finish. However, on a nickel plated Smith M36 the star on the extractor will be blue. On stainless gun, it will be stainless. The main reason is that there were no stainless no dash 36's. When they started making stainless J-frames they were designated M60.

It doesn't look blue at all on my screen, lol. It's hard to tell with pictures.

Wikipedia says the 36's are nickel or blue. No mention of stainless.

It features a nickel-plated or blued finish and either wood or rubber grips.
