Item Description: I really want to give this a new home where it can be made into what it should be.
Springfield M1903 and according to serial # it was manufactured in 1918. It's a cool weapon to have but I'd like to get something else.
Someone in their infinite wisdom cut the barrel off behind the front sight. There is still a foundry mark and SA 7 42 stamped on the tip; it may signify a barrel swap in in 1942. The stock has been cut as well - I'm guessing they were trying to sporterize it and never completed the project. The barrel can be crowned by a competent gunsmith. I could not find any markings on the stock.
There is very light oxidation which can be easily cleaned (I'm leaving it as-is for a reason) It has a real unique rear sight and the action is tight.
I've never shot it but I have chambered a modern round and it cycled just the way it should.
If you need any other pics or have questions let me know.
