I could be wrong but a factory original convertible came with both cylinders both of the same finish. What I think the OP has done was purchase a 9mm cylinder.

I have done the same thing with my Ruger single six and as long as the timing is right they work perfectly.
 
They are available from Ruger with 2 cylinders Ruger will not sell a cylinder for a Blackhawk unless it originally came with the gun( and was lost or damaged I purchased this cylinder for the gun on the internet. Cylinders are all the same size except for length. One needs to find the same length as their original 357 cylinder and they fit and work as well as a factory one. I have or have had 5 Blackhawks that got ACP cylinders .
