I had this same model rifle in 1979 and loaded it with cast bullets - it was fun to shoot and no more recoil than a 30-06. I even loaded the cartridges with black powder and it always brought a crowd of onlookers at the range.
I kept a box of factory ammo for when someone wanted to shoot it - always fun to watch their expression after touching off a factory round! Back then I could load a round with a cast Bullet for about 10 cents, but factory ammo was @$1.00/round. Always regretted selling that rifle.
