When applying for the hunt, you either get selected for a permit to hunt that year or you get rejected for that year. If selected, your permit is only good for the current season. If rejected, you are issued a priority point that can be wagered for next year’s drawing. Having one or more points accumulated put you above anybody else who has less priority points. Most alligator zones require several years worth of rejection points before you draw a permit to hunt. That’s why some of us only apply for a point; it is not requesting the permit, only the point to use in future applications. Some zones may require up to 6, some will require less.
Popularity is ever-increasing. Fuel prices may be causing some folks to seek in-state opportunities.
Seriously. When I started getting points 5 years ago, all the best zones were like 4 points, now it's pushing 6. Preference Point Inflation Creep at its finest.
