I was in the market for a car a few months ago. Ended up buying an old Toyota to drive instead of having a payment. The worst cars I saw while looking

2022 Kia Sorento SX Prestige MSRP $42,XXX-ish. Dealer wanted $65,XXX by the time the paperwork was done.

2022 4Runner TRD Pro was $105K after dealer markup

It is more than just the supply chain, it is an intentional drive to increase the cost of non fuel efficient vehicles to drive consumers to highly fuel efficient vehicles and electric. It makes a 60K Tesla look cheap now in comparison.
Biden‘s executive order on fuel economy standards are nuts. They expect ~8% fleet improvement year over year improvement, and roughly a 30% overall improvement from 2021 to 2026. I doubt car manufacturers can redesign engines that fast and make those improvements…Thus to achieve a fleet average you have to drive up the cost of the non fuel efficient cars to drive people the most fuel efficient cars.
It is all being done so the American family can save money !
