Generator Thread ....When the power goes out...

Mine had 2 yo ethanol gas in it and fired on the 2nd pull. Ran like a champ for 8 hrs last week. She loves old stale gas! Next time power goes out gas should be 4 yo and gtgšŸ‘šŸ» don’t fret it just fire it!
I wouldn't push your luck. That crap gas can stop up a carburetor and fuel lines

Drain that sucker's tank as much as you can, and then run it 'til it's dry. Consider dropping some sea-foam in the tank. Check the oil, and replace it if it's cruddy. If you're really diligent pull and inspect the spark plug and air filter, and replace or clean them if they need it.

And then stash it back in the garage. You'll thank me next time you have to fire it up at 6AM when the next power cut happens. Unless it's a big genset, ignore the battery condition, plan on pull-starting it.

If you really can't bring yourself to do any of that, at least put a healthy chug of marine-grade fuel stabilizer in the tank with whatever gas you left in there.

I love living on edgešŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
I do at least turn the fuel off at the tank and let her sputter herself off and the carb is empty šŸ‘šŸ»
Same here and only keep enough fuel in the tank to run it 15min or so. Just enough to exercise it.
So you like livin on the edge.........Go tell your wife she's fat and never gets anything right..........:brick:

I came across a supply of hand sanitizer that was almost pure moonshine from the covid days, gave a few gallons to a cousin...... we couldn't get fuel for a few days down here; sure you see where this is going! He called me and told me I should sanitize my generator, yep he was running his generator on it. Said it didn't like it pure but with a bit of gas mixed it hummed right along.

My gen specs say to change every 50hrs. I ran mine today. It actually started with one pull. I've been having to tinker with it for a few years now. It ran better today than it has in a few years. Maybe I've finally got the carb cleaned out. Anyways, I keep up with the time on the motor. 25yrs old and only 33.25hrs on it. I changed the oil at 25hrs just because. I have a supply of parts for it.

Damn B basstracker89 …you in the game bro…you keeping a spreadsheet on the genny.
Hell..half the time I don’t remember where I left my genny, when it was last used. Don’t know how old it is. Ain’t never changed the oil in it and sure as hell don’t have any spare parts for it. Carb is stopped up every time I find it and try to start it. Guess I like livn on the edge….. šŸ˜‚

If I didn't keep up with it, I wouldn't remember either. I have too many things to keep up with. If I don't wright it down, it's gone. Keep up with my vehicles that way too. When I was younger, I could remember all that. But I didn't have as much stuff as I do now. Vehicles are done by mileage mostly. There are some things by time and model year, I keep a log. The gen is a piece of tape I put on the machine. Lawn mower is by the year. No need to document. I can tell you how many rounds I've fired a weapon and when the last time I shot it. We also keep up with house maintenance by writing it down. Like when things were repaired or replaced. Want to know something, we have a file.
