Gentlemen, I'm afraid the time is near. We all have a decision to make...

I think you have been watching to much Fox news....calm down.
There is no comparison, and its foolish to even pretend there is any,but there is no comparisons to the tyranny of living under the rule of a king and/or what the freedoms we now enjoy.

And if you are going to quote the 2nd Amendment go back and at least REAd it all..You left out a very important part.

"In order to maintain a well regulated militia"..."The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"

The first part of that just may be the most important part as some/many people believe that a State national gaurd fills the intent of a local peoples militia.

I have had enough of this inane talk regarding the 2nd amendment. Do you even know what regulated means in this context? Why do we even have a second amendment at all? what was the purpose of including it in our Constitution? Look I am sure you mean well, that said there is alot of ignorance regarding rights, amendments, the bill of rights etc. I will try to make it simple. Read the Decleration of Independence. try to wrap your mind around the freedom the founding generation enjoyed, and the outrage they had when those freedoms came under scruitny by the Government. He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.(gee sound familliar)
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:(exuctive orders?)
For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:
For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent: (income tax)
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:(USA PATRIOT ACT NDAA ET AL.)
For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences
For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies.
For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
The more things change the more they remain the same. The America most of us grew up idealizing died decades ago, long before any of us were even born. It is at this time in history that people are begining to realize this fact and it is making them angry. Those people who benifit from the system of mercantilism forced upon the several states by the Lincoln administration embrace the enslavement of those they see as the slave masters of thier ancestors. The attitude of they owe me has been fostered by ur Government for many decades and it is prevailing.
You might not see the tyranny because you do not understand what it looks like, perhaps it is something you read about in a book in school. The fact is you don't know because you have never been truly free.
“None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.”

Im not a liberal?..
Go back and read,i said "many people beleive the founding fathers intent was a well regulated local militia"..i never said it was my belief.
I was simply pointing out the fact that to quote the amendmant only halfway was not stating the whole truth..

The amendment was talked about a lot by the founders. I believe if you look you will see that it was intended for us to be the last line of defense for liberty against all enemies both foreign and domestic.

The LEAST you could do is quote it right before you MIS interpret it:

Ever heard the old adage "Throw a frog in a pot of boiling water and he will try to jump out, but put a frog in a pot of cold water and slowly bring it to a boil and he will calmly boil to death."? Guess who the frogs are.

ok..my apologies..i was simply trying to remind the often forgotten part of the amendment.."To maintain a militia"..The right to keep and bear"..may not be gauranteed,as so many seem to beleive it is.

I am a gun owner..but this op post seems a bit "frenzy"..saying "The time is near".."and we have a decision to make"..

I went to the gunshow today and people were buying guns and i went to walmart and people were buying ammo.
The more like radical extremist gun nuts we appear by making statements about "drawing lines in the sand " and revolution discussion people makes gun ownership seems more.more radical.

What else do you do when you gave your rights under fire. Roll over and show your belly? I don't.

What rights are under fire?...you think your right to own and keep and bear a gun is under fire?...Seriously STOP watching FOX news they make aliving out of inflaming anger and people fall for it.

Washington has no intention and they realize they have NO chance of taking the citizens guns....calm down everybody.

Our great nation was founded on the belief that every individual has certain inalienable rights and liberties. The Constitution identifies these rights however it does not grant them to us, it simply acknowledges their existence. They are inherent to us as human beings. The Second Amendment guarantees us the right to keep and bear arms so that as individuals we would have the tools necessary to defend ourselves from those who would forcibly trample upon our other rights. Our country has enjoyed 237 years of freedom and because of this we have become somewhat complacent. We often speak of tyranny and oppression in hypothetical terms however we must realize that these are very valid threats to our freedom and they cannot be taken lightly.

Our political opponents have wasted no time in exploiting a national tragedy to further their idealistic agenda. The swiftness with which they have attacked our rights can leave no doubt as to what their true intentions are. This is not a crusade for the safety of our children. It is an underhanded attempt to completely strip the American people of their right to self defense. This was once the subject of conspiracy theories and radical right wing rhetoric but it is now very real. In the near future we may find ourselves standing on the precipice of liberty staring into the abyss of tyranny.

Nobody wants to be put in this position. We live good lives with families and children and we are understandably reluctant to seriously consider such drastic possibilities and dire consequences. However our founding fathers were real people too and they faced the same uncertainty and trepidation. They risked everything they had so that we may know freedom and prosperity. For us to do nothing is to refuse their gift and dishonor their sacrifice.

We have been called upon to have a national conversation on guns but instead we have been met with furious demands and ultimatums. It is imperative that we counter these attacks with intelligent and coherent arguments. Our opponents are masters of slander and they will waste no opportunity to paint us as radical extremists. Right now our best weapons are the power of our words and the strength of our arguments. However, we too have our ultimatums. Our right to bear arms is not negotiable and it will not be surrendered.

Thus we all must take time to reflect on a very serious personal decision. If our words are ignored our rights may be stripped away and we will all become criminals with the stroke of a pen. We all have to contemplate our response to such an action. We cannot condone aggression and every effort must be made to avoid confrontation. I sincerely hope and pray that we are never faced with such a situation. However at a certain point we have a duty as a free people to stand together and collectively say "Molon Labe".

HEAR, HEAR!

Outstanding and poignant post.

Really? What rock do you live under? The Government has been trying to convince the American people for over a century that rights come from Government not from God. Wake up man, time is short and we are being bred out of existance. When the people stop standing up for thier rights all rights are gone forever. This is not some social studies project it is reality. Free men do not ask for permission.

Do you seriously have to ask what rights are under fire? Have you been under a rock? I also would like to know what you have against Fox news. Rhey are the ONLY news outlet that reports what the others won't.

No problems brother. I understand how the first part of the amendment has led many a confused argument but it does not negate the second part. In fact it is supposed to be a strengthener. Kinda like "Yep, we sure do need a militia but that don't mean you can mess with folks's gun". Many will say that it means that the peoples whose right shall not be infringed ARE that militia. Maybe so. ither way, the guns are off limits for the grabbers. Period.

And yeah, the undercurrent of panic you see in the frenzied buying is very real. The left never stops trying. They will do anything and everything..except quit. They see an opportunity lilke the Aurora shooting and the Newtown murders and they just drool. They think they have the wedge to FINALLY pass huge legislation. But every day, under the cover of secrecy, they are always working to take small steps in the same direction.

Surely you don't want guns in the hands of crazy people....we NEED a background check to make sure thos ecrazy people don't buy guns.
Nobody NEEDS a fully automatic weapon... We need to make them illegal to own.
You don't need a weapon that looks like a military weapon, even semiauto. We need to ban evil assault weapons.
Surely there's nothing wrong with marking ammunition so we can track criminals...we need micro-stamping.
A tax on amunition will help fund the agencies that keep our children safe and reduce the ability of criminals to get ammunition.
This UN treaty is only to reduce the transfer of guns to dangerous people. It won't affect YOUR guns.
Who really NEEDS 30 rounds in a magazine? We NEED to pass a law limiting the capacity of magazines

Are you starting to see a trend yet?

So, a little panic is understandable. There are only two ways to win...attrition(which is their game) or revolt. And we lack the cohesion and moral courage as a group to follow in the footsteps of our forefathers. If Patrick Henry lived today he would have said "Give me liberty...please".
