Well done, sir!

Picked this up today. Pictures don't do it justice, I'll get some tomorrow in the daylight. The stock is in great shape...has not be sanded or refinished. Has the beautiful reddish/blondish color I see on many nice non-RC K98s. Waffenampts are clearly defined and stock number matches receiver. Stock has been well taken care of...some light markings here and there but no major or even moderate issues at all.
Took the bolt apart and wow....what a complicated ordeal. Very German to over-engineer something...no wonder these were hard and slow to produce. Bolt internals match each other but not the receiver.
Haven't checked the bore yet, but the barre looks to have plenty of life left, muzzle passes the bullet test with flying colors.
Will be installing the "shooting kit" tonight, whereby the gas system is relaxed with new parts to keep the gas pressure down. As I understand it, as the G43 was designed and manufactured, it is way overgassed and pushed the short piston system back with too much force thereby slamming the bolt carrier into the back of the receiver which has caused many many bolt carriers to meet their demise. The shooting kit decreases the amount of gas that pushes the short piston and thus the bolt carrier and keeps it from slamming into the back of the receiver. I have been advised not to shoot this gun until that is installed.
I have also purchased an 8mm fire gauge to check headspacing. It won't be here until Tuesday. I have put an 8mm round directly into the throats of the barre and it does not go in with a loose or sloppy fitting, but a rather tight fitting that would require some amount of force to seat in the barrel. Not a great way to test but I feel very likely that headspacing will be just fine. Will test for sure Tuesday.
Interesting rifle, the. Opt system is pretty bizarre, never seen another bolt system like it. Rifle has been taken care of, stock is in fantastic shape and it definitely is eye-catching. Never thought I would spend this much on a gun I will only sparingly shoot but I'm glad I did.

Since the bolt carrier doesn't match, I bet it was shot without a shooters kit since it was manufactured (of course seeing as the kits have been around less than 10 years) and the original bolt carrier was probably beaten to death.
The bore is in awesome shape!
We really need a day at the CMP or other nice range now
