I've heard several stories and seen pics of flocks blowing up with the .40 round because they "don't full seat the round". How common is this and is this just an urban legend.

You can Google and find pics of blown Glocks. You can also find that just about any gun will blowup in the right or wrong circumstance. There was a video circulating recently of a Smith revolver sending its barrel downrange. What I've always heard was that the 40 did not fully support the case. seems like if it did not seat fully the gun would not fire.

I saw a video of(so it said) a Taurus launching a barrel down range.Looked like a revolver with a 4"barrel.If Glocks are blowing,I`d look at overzealous handloading first. When I was a teenager,I pulled a bullet out of a .22 longrifle cartridge. When I saw that the factory only loaded the rounds with about one-third of the amount of powder that the cartridge would hold,I used powder from other rounds to make me some"varmint rounds".The first and only round that I fired blew the bolt open(and I was holding it shut, just in case.Extracter left the area, never to be found.Wood flew outa the stock.End of my 1st finger opened up like a snake`s mouth.Powder burns on face.Ears rang.End of story.Rifle was a new Remington bolt action.Seems like the bolt blew out of the gun,but I`m not sure.

It does not fully support the round, it is done to increase reliability. when the case's explode it is due to using very hot reload's with a stock barrell. while at anytime any gun could blow up it is usually user error or just a freak accident.

Glocks experience KB due to their non-fully-supported chamber design, and most commonly KB from hot reloads in cases that are bulged from being shot in a Glock already - as already noted. That being said, I had a Glock 23 that had 12K+ rounds through it without a single problem.

I've seen S&W's with the top half of the cylinder and frame blown off. I've seen other revolvers send the barrel downrange as well. Most of the time...the ammo is the problem (reloads) and not the gun itself.

However, a few years ago, Ruger had to recall the first batch of LCP's due to their non-fully-supported chamber design. Had a friend who had his KB in his hand one day at the range. Blew an 1/8" section out of the case, locked the slide up and blew the magazine out of the gun. Ruger fixed the design, and everybody and their brother copied it.
