Gotta admit I like that one a lot better. Ut I'm not a purist or expert. Hell I didn't even know GM was in the M16 bidness way back then. I just assumed they were out of small arms defense contract work after WW2 or Korea.

For the most part after WWII the war effort for production of small arms went back to the actual firearm manufactures. But the M16 is a unique circumstance. It was pressed into service under urgency. (Besides colt and GM, Harrison and Richardson made M16's too) This is also why the rollmark is so "loose" on the GM stuff. You've got a automotive company cranking out units, as long as it met spec, cosmetics didn't matter, just deadlines.
