Good carry piece for girl[space...]friend

absolutely!!
I have friends over all the time and when we get to drinking they line up and let me take turns shooting them with my Sig 238 , all it does is leave a tiny red mark on their skin!
come on now --really??
I think he's referring to accuracy, but even so, it ain't true.

Yes Sir I agree!
99% of the accuracy of a modern handgun is the loose screw behind the grip, and of course becoming use to the weapon.
I am able to wobble few rounds in the target with my lil Sig 238.
now true its not my CZ P-01 but then again it is a BUG and a lot easier to carry around.

Buy the biggest frame she can carry. These tiny .380 are not fun or easy to shoot and cause people to not like shooting and develop bad habits. I would get her started on a full size gun and move on to something smaller if she needs it. Too many women start with tiny guns because they think they are cute or that that's what women should shoot. An lcp is not a good gun to learn on for anyone especially a woman who can't even pick a gun for herself.. get her a .22 like an m&p 22 or ruger sr22. That way she will have fun and be able to learn good technique.

I'd suggest Walther PPS if you want something that feels almost full size while being easier to carry, but I'm also giving serious consideration to an XDs. Haven't tried the G43, don't intend to. I also like the P938, but the recoil is a touch harsh in something that small, but it sure carries nicely.

It's way too soon to be thinking about what a good carry gun would be. You should be looking for a good gun to learn how to shoot on. Once you learn to shoot and decide you want to carry you should more knowledge to make a good decision.

The main question I had for my wife is how are you going to carry the gun? Purse, person or in the car. In a purse (depending on the size of the purse) it probably wont matter what size the gun is...same with a glove box. Person is a different story. I have a throw around SCCY with the lowered trigger spring. It does the job, but the trigger is heavy. It took me a few 100 rounds to get used to, but it is a cheap truck gun.

I agree with this. It feels like a compact but is single stack subcompact. Great guns. I have one, don't carry it much anymore because they are a tad longer and I have to be more aware of printing when carrying.

I don't agree with the G43 part though. Great guns as well.

It can take weeks or even months to get the permit. It makes sense that if she has decided to carry that the first action she takes is applying for the GWL.

George P. Burdell George P. Burdell has my line of thought. Yes, it's better to have a weapons permit and not use it, but I'm a little anxious about people like the OP's friend grabbing a permit and carrying when they have never shot or practiced regularly with any gun before. But maybe she will be an awesome shot by the time the permit comes in.

Have her try all types - full, compact and pocket. My wife likes a 9mm shield and my P95(s), even though the P95 is a heavy sumbitch. The shield was a pain to rack at first, but after 300+ rounds of practice, it's pretty smooth now. They will like what they like, and carry what they want. My wife goes through my safe in the morning looking at what she is going to take today like it is suppose to complement her outfit.
