Took my newly acquired Marlin 1895 45-70 to the range today. sniperxx sniperxx
Firing 325gr Hornady FTX
47.9gr of IMR 4198
Winchester brass
Remington 9 1/2 primers

After a quick sight in at 25 and 50. I was able to put 5 shots in a 1" group at 100yds.

Great gun and a great load. Looking forward to putting this round on some Fort Stewart hogs.

Sounds like some good shootn! I'm glad you bought that thing, it was driving me crazy as a backup to my 1895.

Most all of my work with the 45-70 has been with IMR 4198 and its been a great powder. That 47.9 gr is getting up there where I really think the 45-70 shines. Around 2000 fps and closing in on 3000 ft/lbs.
