I have always made firewood with a Sven Saw or my boot when backpacking. Last week's soggy weather reminded me of Les Stroud, who said that he never leaves the house in winter without an axe. Got me thinking about the tomahawk and the "Trapper's Axe"...... a lightweight head with a longer handle.... @ 22-24"s long.
What do you take to the woods and why?

I got this a few years back, its a Medieval battle axe. Picked it up in Idaho about 9 years ago. It weights a ton 17lbs I think. It will chop most anything. Dont asked how much I paid for it lol.

In the under $50 range, I would look into the SOG Fastback. Or a Woodsman pal is a little more. I love my fastback, very versatile with an pick on one sire and the side of it is checkered to use as a hammer.
Woodsman pal is just classic.
