My old stomping grounds in Largo just above John Penny Camp..Had a great time as a kid working on a dive boat back in the 50-60s.
So you remember the original 7 mile bridge before the rebuild.. Narrow as hell 2 lane.. Scary as hell if something went wrong..
I believe they closed it due to contractors mixing cement with salt water to cut cost..
Trying to talk my wife into a trip to Key West.. I’m sure a lot has changed in 40 years though..
Now it’s a 4 lane.. 2 lanes on each side..
I have been told the Camp I worked out was called Jack Daniels fish camp and it had a lagoon..Now I have been told it has been turned into an underwater motel..
So many things have changed with progress.. Really thankful I got to experience the beauty of the Keys when I was young!
If you saw the statue of Christ of the Deep in Penny Camp back then...You would cry to see what it looks like now..They no longer do maintenance to the statue..Crying shame..
Wife has a friend who got her degree at Ga Southern. She’s been employed in that field for years.
